Friday Blog Roundup – September 12
It has been quite a busy week at the Cheatham household. I’m going to study some today but am going to try to chill and finish an audio book I’ve been listening too while exercising this afternoon and evening. Thanks again for stopping by. I’m always humbled by the visitors I have and the nice comments I get. There’s a lot of great information in the blogosphere these days. I’m honored you’ve chosen to stop by here. With today being Friday, It’s time for a short list of some of the posts that caught my eye this week. Hope you enjoy these if you haven’t read them already.
I’m really looking forward to the release of the ESV study bible next month. I’ve been using the ESV as my primary translation for about 5 years now and have purchased the Reformation and Literary study bibles available in the ESV format. This new bible is the actual study bible produced by Crossway itself and contains a number of great features. Noted author Randy Alcorn reviewed it recently and had great things to say about it.
Here’s an interesting post from Michael Quicke. Are we preachers marginilizing worship these days? I certainly hope we are not but some have commented saying that yes, it is a problem. I’ve always enjoyed Quicke’s thoughts. He is the author of the excellent works, “360-degree preaching” and “360-degree leadership”. If you have time, please stop by his blog and comment on this. I’d love to read the discussion.
Thursday Bram at Lifehack.org writes about ways you can attend that awesome conference you want to go to for nothing. It requires a bit of work and/or ingenuity but she’s dead on in her comments. As a former news reporter for radio, I’ve used her first idea, “covering it for the press” as a way to attend two conferences that I would not have gone to otherwise. I just file a few reports for the local community radio station and “poof”, my admission fee was covered…AND it was ethical.
Friday’s here but Monday IS coming. Why not kick off your work week next week with a smile! Phillip Zannini has 7 ways to make your Mondays sing! Good stuff!
Jacob Riggs at “afrayedknot” posted recently on engaging our culture with the gospel. This kind of ties in with my post yesterday about evangelism. There is a lot of discussion going on these days about our methods and success or lack thereof. Another church in the area I pastor in is closing because of lack of depth in its members. One of the flock approached me in a local coffee shop and asked about our work and why there’s wasn’t growing. I couldn’t answer because it isn’t fair but the shift in our culture (especially these past few years) in the way they view church is alarming. Jacob’s onto some good things that you will read about in the future. Subscribe to his blog.
That’s it for the list this week. Enjoy your reading and have a blessed weekend!
See you on Monday!

Great new site. I updated you on my blog roll. Keep leading!
