Friday Blog Roundup – October 3

Wow, quick week!  I’ve been quite busy.  Not much time for writing this week but here’s some good reading for you to enjoy over the weekend.

Let’s start with a freebie.  Everybody likes free.  If you are looking  for a good read on the state of church attendance for the eighteen to twentysomething generation, CLICK HERE and download the new book by Thom Ranier, “Essential Church”.  You can purchase a hard copy of the book but this is a free, complete, PDF of the book for you to check out.

Chris Forbes at “Ministry Marketing Coach” has some good tips for making your parking lot ministry more successful and useful to church attenders.

Joel Falconer at Lifehack has a good post on learning your personal energy flow.  This mirrors a lot of what is taught in the book “The Power of Full Engagement” which I’m currently reading.

Tim Ferriss has an interesting post on office design inspired by the Dutch.  Included are pictures of his own office.  I think this is the shape of things to come in the years ahead.  It’s another reason why I nixed plans for an office in our new church space we are moving to.  We needed the room for other things and I’m not as productive when I’m in an office as when I’m out and about.  Pastors need to have their meetings in public spaces these days for most things given the climate we work in.

Cynthia Ware has a great post on protecting yourself from scams on the networking site Facebook.  I’ve already been victimized once and have taken these steps to try to protect myself.  Facebook is an awesome networking resource for churches and their pastors.  We just need to use some common sense as we work with it.

That’s it for the week!  Enjoy and I’ll see you again on Monday.
